Grammy Glamour

Friday, 24 February 2012

I know the Grammy's were 2 weeks ago but I cannot get over the amazing dresses that were on display!  All that glitters is gold!(no pun intended). If you weren't in old hollywood glam it was modern and sexy cut outs/fitting. The dress that stood out the most was Rihanna's show stopping black dress by Georgio Armani showcasing a plunging neck line and a backless back drop.

Most of the celebs did it right this year. But of course there were some fashion statement blunders.....
And here was Nicki Minaj wearing a creation by Versace to promote her new album
" Roman Holiday".

Never a dull moment at the Grammy's

Extreme wide leg pants HIT OR MISS?
Mel&Co. are not ones to stray away from new trends and outrageous fashion fads but the infamous widelegs that your mother probably rocked back in her day are being questioned as the next trend over this way , maybe it should be left back in the hippie era? ( think oversized PJ bottom that come up to your belly button) . The modern wide legs, which is hot this winter, trending are anything from floral prints to boho inspired patterns and can be as wide as your grandma's curtains.
It is however a bonus in winter when you are wanting to sport a long floral print but maybe to cold to wear a skirt (it literally looks like a maxi skirt nobody would really know the difference.... until you start walking....) Either way, Boho is back this winter.

Tribal/Aztec Season 2012

Tuesday, 21 February 2012

There is no doubt anything Aztec or tribal is making it's big debut this season and even this year. Think Indian Cherokee meets the Amazonian culture, bold and crazy patterns, ochre, blues, yellow colours! and even feathers!  The stars are definitely showcasing all tribal prints and are now bombarding fashion stores everywhere.

How do you wear these Cuzco inspired garments?
EASY!
Ponchos, knits, tan leather, denims, Aztec prints can teamed up with a block coloured blouse, loose shirt, tights or skirts. Anything simple to balance the aztec theme.

If you are going to go crazy with aztec on top keep it nice and simple on the bottom and vice versa.

The Beginning of Something Beautiful

Starting up Mel&Co. has been a dream of mine since I first walked into one of Sydney's amazing fashion boutique on  George Street with my mum at the age of 10. All of the colours and texture of the fabrics made me so curious and drawn to the shapes and beauty of the garments. Watching my Mother try on clothes and seeing a satisfied look on her face made me realise what a simple dress can do to alter someone's mood and appearance ( She looked amazing in a white wrap dress, not being bias or anything....) and of course later in life found how fashion can create a person, persona and genre of styles. Everyone has there own stance on clothing and how it should be portrayed on themselves and the rest of the world but the most undeniable factor or fashion is, that it is the CHOICES one makes that can attribute how you feel on the outside that reflects the person within.

So having a retail store came so easy to me. I get the privelge to hand pick, search the globe and analyze every clothing range, accessories and beauty essential I want to bring to people  and know I am making someone feel special once they get their hands on a beautiful creation. Fashion can be ridiculous to some ( and trust me there are trends I do not agree with) but to most it is a way of life. It is a wonderful thing to be able to express yourself through clothing , a glimpse of who you are or how you feel, to be your own individual.

You will most likely come across celeb fashion comparisons to items of clothing I bring forth or the latest trend of present time. A little bit of everything :)
